Metaphor, Metonymy and Vioce Essays
Metaphor, Metonymy and Vioce Essays Metaphor, Metonymy and Vioce Paper Metaphor, Metonymy and Vioce Paper Barbara Johnsonââ¬â¢s critique focuses on the metaphoric, metonymic and voice in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. It focuses on the major character, Janie Crawfordââ¬â¢s inner and outer change towards her various relationships. She focuses on the strengths, both vocally and physically, gained after her first slap down by her second husband, Joe Starks. Barbara Johnson focuses on the metaphoric meaning of this transformation which was defined as the substitution based on the resemblance or analogy and then she goes on to the metonymic meaning which she defines as the basis of a relation or association other than that similarity. Paul De Man, a deconstructionist literary critic and theorist, provides a brief summary stating the preference for the metaphor over metonymy by aligning analogy with necessity and contiguity with chance. According to him, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢the element of truthââ¬â¢ is the product of a purely rhetorical and ultimately metonymical, sleight of hand, therefore over turning the traditional hierarchy and deconstructing the very basis for the seductiveness and privilege of metaphor. â⬠Barbara Johnson pays keen and strict attention to a specific passage in her critique and she also focuses on its figurative structure. She speaks on Janieââ¬â¢s crucial turning point in relation to Joe and herself. She begins to speak out, defending herself, gaining a ââ¬Å"voiceâ⬠for her inner self. These scenes put Janie to think about the inside state of her marriage. Janie was not about to be completely submissive to Joe without her voice being heard. Gradually, Janie ââ¬Å"pressed her teeth togetherâ⬠and learnt to hush and the spirit of a happy ending marriage left the bedroom and moved to the parlor. Johnson stated that ââ¬Å"the bed was no longer a daisy-field for her and Joe to play in but it was now transformed into a place where she went and laid down when she was sleepy and tired. â⬠The relationship had suddenly adapted a change as Janie gained a ââ¬Å"voiceâ⬠. It took a shattered image of Joe, as stated by Johnson, for Janie to see that it was never the flesh and blood figure of her dream. Just something she had grabbed up to drape her dreams over. According to the critique, ââ¬Å"she had no more blossomy openings dusting pollen over her man, neither any glistening young fruit where petals used to be. She found that she had a host of thoughts she never expressed to him and numerous emotions she had let Joe know aboutâ⬠¦. an outside now and suddenly she knew not to mix themâ⬠(taken from page 48 of the critique). Barbara views the paragraph as an externalization of Janieââ¬â¢s feelings onto the outer surroundings in the form of a narrative of movement from private to public space. While the whole of the figure relates metaphorically, analogically, to the marital situation it is designed to express, it reveals the marriage space to be metonymical, a movement through a series of contiguous rooms. It is a narrative not of union but of separation centered on an image not of conjugality but of virginity. In Janie, there was still a search for her ââ¬Å"voiceâ⬠. When she realizes that the inner and outer are never the same, she paradoxically begins to speak. Janieââ¬â¢s acquisition of the power to speak allows the reader to sympathize or relate with Janie as she develops her voice and acquires strength to defend her opinions. It must be remembered that the maintenance of sides, metaphor and metonymy (inside and outside), is the very possibility of speaking at all. The reduction of a course to oneness, identity as it relates to Janie, the reduction of woman to mayorââ¬â¢s wife, has as its necessary consequence aphasia, silence, the loss of the ability to speak. Stretching far beyond Janieââ¬â¢s new wholeness or identity as a character, her increasing ability to speak grows out of her ability not to mix inside with outside, not to pretend that there is no differenc3, but simply to assume and articulate the incompatible forces involved in her own division. The sign of an authentic voice is this not self-identity but self-difference. Barbara Johnson speaks of how the womenââ¬â¢s voices have attained inferiority as it relates to the situation of Janieââ¬â¢s acquisition of her inner and outer voice. Her opinionated statements were shut down by Joe. Johnson then mentions Auerbachââ¬â¢s urge to unify and simplify is an urge to re-subsume female difference under the category of the universal, which has always been obscurely male. The random, trivial and marginal will simply be added to the list of things all men have in common. Auerbachââ¬â¢s then calls for unification and simplification in the province of the white. If the womanââ¬â¢s voice must be incorporate and articulate division and self-difference, so too has Afro-American literature always had to assume its double-voicedness. Johnson concludes her critique with a brief synopsis of Zora Neale Hurstonââ¬â¢s main imitative into writing Their Eyes Were Watching God. She explains that according to her, ââ¬Å"there is no message, no theme, no thought; the full range of questions and experiences of Janieââ¬â¢s life are invisible to a mind steeped in maleness as Ellisonââ¬â¢s Invisible Man is to minds steeped in whiteness. Infrastructure Security of Agricultural and Food Research Paper
Infrastructure Security of Agricultural and Food - Research Paper Example Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration at the federal level. In order to serve the nation well, the sector needs to be effectively associated and dependent on other sectors that include water, transportation, energy, banking and finance, chemical, and dams (Food and Agriculture Sector: Critical Infrastructure, 2012). The present study focuses on the infrastructural security of food and agriculture which are essential for successful service to the people in a nation. Infrastructure Protection and the U.S. Food and Agriculture Sector: In the recent years, much of attention has been considered with respect to the fear of terrorism in a country like the US. Agriculture in this regard has been observed to have received lesser attention and concern. ââ¬Å"Indeed, in terms of accurate threat assessments, response structures and preparedness initiatives, the sector continues to exist as a glaring exception to the wide-ranging emphasis that has been given to critical infrastructure protection in this countryâ⬠(Chalk, 2001, p.2). Agro terrorism is a matter of serious concern with respect to the security of food and agriculture infrastructure. ... There is an increasing rate of the susceptibility of farm animals to diseases. A large number of agents are found to exist that are fatal and highly infectious to animals. The farming practices in the country can be realized to be of highly intensive and concentrated as can be reflected from the easiness and rapidity with which animals are vulnerable to diseases. This thus requires effective security measures of infrastructure protection. Lack of internal quality control, increased production of genetically modified products are other factors making the food and agriculture sector in the country susceptible to agro-terrorism and higher levels of insecurity (Chalk, 2001, pp.3-5). Infrastructural Security of Agriculture and Food: National Infrastructure Protection Plan: Under the National Protection Plan of the infrastructure of agriculture and food, the USDA or U.S. Department of Agriculture has significant roles to play. One of its most important roles is to assure that the foods and clothing of the people of the nation are met without fail. It is in charge of supervising the nationââ¬â¢s 192 million acres of national forests and rangelands. It is also the largest conservation agency of the country and encourages deliberate efforts to look after soil, water, and wildlife on 70 percent of Americaââ¬â¢s lands that are under the control of private ownerships. The safety of around 80 percent of the food consumed in the country is under the responsibility of the FDA. It shares its responsibility with Federal, State, and local agencies; regulated industry; academia; health providers; and consumers. ââ¬Å"The Agriculture and Food Sector is dependent upon: the Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems Sector for clean irrigation and processed

Case Study about 32 employees Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Case Study about 32 employees - Research Paper Example Moreover, the interview method indicates the qualitativeness of the data that the consultant is gathering. In conducting a Descriptive Research, the consultant will simply be able to provide a description of the prevalent behavior of the employees in the workplace (Creswell, 2003). Question Two: How would you categorize the type of research conducted in Phase Two? Answer: The type of research conducted in Phase Two is Quantitative research. The Quantitative Research design makes use of numeric data in order to make inferences about a certain group. In this case, the consultant gathered numeric or quantitative data from the company employment records in the hope of finding significant differences in the data contained in the records (Creswell, 2003). Data: 1. During Phase One, the consultant determined that 50% of the employees were PhDs involved in new product research, the other 50% were laborers involved in distributing the product lines to customers. All of the PhDs were male, and all of the laborers were female. For all of the females, the employeeââ¬â¢s income was a secondary income for the family; all were married and the majority had children. For the PhDs, the employeeââ¬â¢s income was the familyââ¬â¢s primary income; the majority was married with children. When asked, the managers noted that none of the employees ever violated the companyââ¬â¢s absenteeism or tardiness policies. The majority of the employees expressed satisfaction with the companyââ¬â¢s attendance policies. Several employees (all laborers) noted that the policy afforded them a good deal of flexibility to handle family matters as needed. The company awarded 20 days (160 hours) per year of vacation time that could accrue to a total of 40 days; they also provided 20 days (160 hours) of sick leave that could accrue to 180 days at which time long term disability took over paying the personââ¬â¢s salary. Sick leave and vacation could be taken on an hourly basis with manager approval. 2. The table below contains the numerical data collected by the consultant. Vac. Effects on an Individuals Worldview: A Reflection
Effects on an Individuals Worldview: A Reflection MY WORLDVIEW: REFLECTION PAPER Osvaldo Santos TABLE OF CONTENTS (Jump to) How do we relate to people? The ââ¬Å"ismsâ⬠Naturalism Deism Existentialism Islamism How To Deal With The ââ¬Å"Ismsâ⬠How My Education Connects to My Worldview The Constructivism Approach My Worldview As Leader Conclusion Reference list How do we relate to people? The ââ¬Å"ismsâ⬠Many ââ¬Å"ismsâ⬠are presented as a form to help people to relate to people and to understand themselves and their worldviews such as Naturalism, Deism, Existentialism, and Islamism. I will present them in a short understanding. Naturalism Naturalism asserts that the world is of a piece; everything we are and do is included in the space-time continuum whose most basic elements are those described by physics. We are the evolved products of natural selection, which operates without intention, foresight or purpose (Tenets of Naturalism, n.d.). According to the Tenets of Naturalism, nothing about us escapes being included in the physical universe, or escapes being shaped by the various processes ââ¬â physical, biological, psychological, and social ââ¬â that science describes. Deism Deism presents other view to understand life and related situations. It preaches that Deism has a lot to offer to us and to society (World Union of Deists n.d.). Deism is knowledge of God based on the application of our reason on the designs/laws found throughout Nature; therefore, Deism presents itself as a natural religion and is not a ââ¬Å"revealedâ⬠religion. The natural religion/philosophy of Deism frees those who embrace it from the inconsistencies of superstition and the negativity of fear that are so strongly represented in all of the ââ¬Å"revealedâ⬠religions such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam (World Union of Deists, n.d.). They are called revealed because they all claim to having received a special revelation from God and they present many books with its roots in God as the revelator. Existentialism Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom and choice (Mastin, 2008). It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. Existentialism focuses many questions such as the question of human existence, and the feeling that there is no explanation that can derive of the core of existence. However, as there is no God or any other transcendent force, the only way to counter this nothingness (and hence to find meaning in life) is by embracing existence (Mastin, 2008). Islamism According to (Islam, n.d.) Islamism is an important religion, which shares many beliefs and practices with Christianity and Judaism. Furthermore, Islam is a rational religion: ââ¬Å"The vilest of creatures are those who choose to be deaf and dumb and do not use their reason.â⬠(Qurââ¬â¢an 8:2). Muhammad reminded his followers that ââ¬Å"The first thing God created was reasonâ⬠. Therefore, believers must take personal responsibility for oneââ¬â¢s actions and faith. Islamââ¬â¢s appeal lies in being able to connect the piety of faith, the covenant, and the mobilizing elements to produce powerful resistance to foreign intrusion. Crucial dimension is not economic but social. Sufism is the mystical dimension of Islam (Islam, n.d.). The pillars of Islam are: 1. Faith in ONE God and Muhammed the Prophet; 2. Five daily prayers facing to Meca; 3. Sharing or giving money to the poor is REQUIRED, not optional; 4. Fasting during the month of Ramadan. Muslins cannot eat or drink anything during the daylight hours (period of spiritual and moral renewal); and 5. Pilgrimage to Mecca: Once in their lives, IF they can afford it. Some authorities add a sixth pillar: Jihad or Holy War in defense of Islam. Means active opposition to evil and injustice, more than literal warfare (Dutch, n.d.; Kash, n.d.). DeSantis (n.d.) present six Islamismââ¬â¢s beliefs: 1. Belief in only One God. He is defined as Eternal, Absolute, Infinite, Compassionate and Merciful, the sole Creator and Provider; 2. Engage only in Righteous Actions in all areas: spiritual, intellectual and physical activity; 3. All Godââ¬â¢s creation is ââ¬Å"Muslimâ⬠. Only humans are given CHOICE to submit (be Muslim) or reject submission to Godââ¬â¢s will; 4. All children are born without sin and are Muslim. As they grow older, they make their religious CHOICE; 5. God created human beings with a body and soul. The body is a temporal host for this life, whereas the soul is eternal. It is the soul that will survive beyond death, and 6. Universality of the call. All Muslims are brothers and equals without any distinction of class, race or tongue. Superiority is only based on the greater fear of God and greater piety. How To Deal With The ââ¬Å"Ismsâ⬠As stated above through the Sireââ¬â¢s seven questions, as a Christian Theist, I believe in God and follow the Bible as my book of revelation about the God becoming knowledgeable Himself through the scriptures and given a variety of instructions belonging to many areas of our lives to us, as human beings. I accept and defend God and His creation, as well as I hope to see Him soon and live together. As simple as is. On the other hand, we can defend our worldview without being arrogant to otherââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"ismsâ⬠worldviews. So, in some instance, I felt a bit uncomfortable trying to answers some provocative questions that have appeared in many post comments on the related weekââ¬â¢s forum about the ââ¬Å"ismsâ⬠. I believe that the ââ¬Å"toneâ⬠on this role play should be a lot different. Instead attacking the worldview of others being provocative, arrogant and/or sarcastic, my point is that we should add knowledge to ourselves and limit some ââ¬Å"personalâ⬠thoughts in order to discuss only ideas and beliefs in a non-aggressive tone that are related to the classââ¬â¢ proposals. There is no gain in any type of dispute. Before some people state their position in an arrogant way, these people should go deeply and learn and understand their cultures, and their worldviews they are inciting. They could also learn how to speak their languages so they could say that they know a bit more about them. So, it is always wise to be careful when expelling out the otherââ¬â¢s worldviews. How My Education Connects to My Worldview My education also has shaped my worldview. Education and learning are constantly taking place in a personââ¬â¢s life (Knight, 2006, p. 108). Thinking about my personal education and how it has similarities with my actual one. I can divide my education in parts: my home education and school education. The most important part of my home education is that one that I could learn and receive from my parents. They gave me a Christian education and taught me the basic principles, values, ethics, and built the foundation for the person I am today. My father used to say: ââ¬Å"My son, education will always give you the skills and knowledge, but they wonââ¬â¢t be enough. Study as much as you can because it will help you to make better decisions in your life. Have a good relationship with God and ask Him humility and wisdom. Finally, do as best as you can for the people around you.â⬠I think that in some level we tend to reflect in our lives the level of education and boundaries we were taught in our early ages. So the education we teach to our children is in some way a combination of that one we received from our parents. If we feel that it was a good one, we automatically transfer to them. If we feel that it was not a good one, we take knowledge and do it in different ways. My children are 10 and 11 years old and I would like to apply the knowledge I have now back few years ago. Even with my knowledge, I would say that I would do some things in a different way. By May 2016, they will celebrate their 50thanniversary and I am very thankful to God for this celebration as well as the education they have given to me. They have helped me as a person, father, husband, friend, son, brother, educator, leader, etc. My school education is a combination Christian and non-Christian education. After I have finished my non-Christian elementary and middle school in a small city in South of Brazil, I left it to live in Sao Paulo and to attend high school in a Seventh-day Adventist Academy. Sao Paulo was among the five biggest cities around the world and an unsafe city to live outside the walls of the school. As soon as I finished high school in Sao Paulo, I moved to Curitiba to continue my studies. In Curitiba I attended the college and took the Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree in Business Administration, followed by the Specialization in Finance, and a MBA in Business Administration/Finance. Parallel to these degrees, I took three years as a Bachelorââ¬â¢s in Music (Piano solo). As I had already started my piano soloist career earlier, for multiple reasons, I did not complete this degree. If compared to Anyon (1980)ââ¬â¢s study, I can say that I always had the opportunity to participate in the ââ¬Å"Affluent Professional Schoolâ⬠, the fourth class of school among the five contained in his study. My parents always looked for giving me the best study they could afford. Repeating my fatherââ¬â¢s words again, he used to say: ââ¬Å"My son, education will always give you the skills and knowledge, but they wonââ¬â¢t be enough. Study as much as you can because it will help you to make better decisions in your life.â⬠I left Brazil to live in US in 2002 and from US to Canada in 2012. So I used to say that my education/learning/schooling is always a working in progress. I am taking the Ph.D. program in Leadership at Andrews University in US and a Bridging program at York University in Toronto. As English is not my first language, every single class I take is a challenge. I would say that for me, it takes almost the double of the time to have a complete understanding about the readings and to elaborate projects and complete assignments. Living, working and studying in these different countries, and receiving a cross cultural education; I can affirm that directly or indirectly, my worldview has been influenced by these cultures. However, Thompson (2014) states that ââ¬Å"Great leaders are always learningâ⬠(p.20). The Constructivism Approach I see in my education the constructivism approach where according to Knight (2006) means that I am constantly revising and upgrading my knowledge. It dictates the way I can learn seeking new understanding or ways to fulfill my knowledge with ââ¬Å"newâ⬠things. Basically it says that I can construct my own knowledge through experiencing things and reflecting on them. Is some way, is how I construct my worldview about things making some type of measurement about the ideas and experiences already acquired against the new information where I can change or discard them. It is a continuous learning process through life; where we are actively creating our own knowledge. This approach makes me a bit uncomfortable because the quantity of ââ¬Å"knowledgeâ⬠I have today, may not be enough to keep me as a successful leader, educator and professional five years from now. What does it mean? The education and learning acquisitionââ¬â¢s system are in a constant and evolving change. I have to analyze myself constantly and compare to level and quantity of information it is necessary to exceed. My learning process as well as my need to seek knowledge never ends. Through my ideas, education and experiences that promote my actual knowledge I have to be innovative and reflective in order to add more knowledge on it. The principal goal of education is to create individuals who are capable of doing new things, not simple of repeating what other generations have done (Theory of Constructivism Jean Piaget) (Constructivism, n.d.). My Worldview As Leader As leader, I also need to understand who I am. Reading the article ââ¬Å"Learning while leading: The Andrews University leadership programâ⬠written by Drs. Freed, Covrig, and Baumgartner (2011), on page 37 it states: ââ¬Å"Leaders need to understand who they are-and they achieve this understanding in part by learning the significance of their own life stories.â⬠This citation caught my attention, and I would like to reflect in the first part where it says ââ¬Å"Leaders need to understand who they areâ⬠. As early as 42 B.C., Publilius Syrus proposed: ââ¬Å"It matters not what you are thought to be, but what you areâ⬠(Whetten Cameron, 2011, p. 57). Freud (1956) once asserted that to be completely honest with oneself is the best effort and individual can make, because complete honesty requires a continual search for more information about the self and a desire for self-improvement (Whetten Cameron, 2011, p. 58). I would like to extend Freudââ¬â¢s point adding that we cannot improve ourselves or develop new capabilities unless and until we consciously know what level of capacity and ability we presently possess. This is a point of recognition and evaluation about our current abilities and deficiencies versus what is expected at end. The realization that we may not be totally adequate or knowledgeable is sometimes difficult to accept because seeking self-knowledge is a prerequisite for our personal growth. However, for a variety of reasons we might be attempted to avoid seeking information as well as evaluate ourselves because it may make us feel inferior. Whetten and Cameron (2011) declares that self-knowledge will help you understand your own taken-for-granted assumptions, trigger points, sensitive line, comfort zone, strengths and weaknesses, and so forth. I would say that this is an important part of our self-awareness which is to understand who we are. As a leader, I am also a proactive person by nature. I try to learn, reach a high level of home and school education, and acquire knowledge as much as possible for few reasons including that they can grow me as a person and as a professional as well. Cloud and Townsend (1992) state that ââ¬Å"Proactive people show you what they love, what they want, what they purpose, and what they stand forâ⬠plus ââ¬Å"Proactive people are able to love others as themselves, they have mutual respect, they are able to die to self and not return evil for evilâ⬠(p.98). This is me. From the various education philosophies theories I have learned, I sympathize with ontology (being) and epistemology (knowing). Knight (2006) claims that ââ¬Å"Ontology is the study of the nature of being.â⬠It is how we make sense of being or existence. On the other hand, Epistemology is the study of knowledge or how we know the things we know. In a practical way, epistemology is how we make sense of the processes by which we make sense. More broadly, epistemology is about issues having to do with the creation and dissemination of knowledge. So based in these two analyzes, and in a simple philosophical thought, I like to think and I am naturally inclined to consider that ââ¬Å"Ontology comes ââ¬Ëbeforeââ¬â¢ Epistemologyâ⬠in the same way I can consider that ââ¬Å"Zero comes ââ¬Ëbeforeââ¬â¢ Oneâ⬠. I can think that ontology is a sufficient condition for epistemology. Example: you cannot study something which you do not have an example of. In general, this is our life and this is one of the reasons I am taking the leadership program (LP) of Andrews University (AU), always seeking more knowledge. As Christians we believe that everything began with God. God made everything real. Sire (2009) present many question which his first question is What is prime reality-the really real? To this we might answer: God, or the gods, or the material cosmos (Sire, 2009, p. 22). The LP of AU is summarized by these two philosophical dimensions about being and knowing where: being works with the individual bringing his/her personal and professional experiences and sharing with other his/her ââ¬Å"cultures, beliefs, worldviews, and theoretical orientationsâ⬠. Knowing is represented by the paradoxical unity of theory and practice and as leaders we can transmit and generate knowledge. (Andrews University: Leadership Handbook 2014-15). In my understanding, I am participating actively in these two philosophical dimensions in this LP of AU. So as leader in the position to exert leadership, if I understand the complexity of my own culture, working by worldview and values I am inserted, I can better understand my own behavior and values. As important as the understanding of my own worldview is how I deal, interpret and accept otherââ¬â¢s worldviews. I would say that, the leaderââ¬â¢s role would be a complete understanding of culture, applying the worldview, values and principles in a right way moving forward the vision. Doing so, I can exert a better and successful leadership. Reference list Anyon, J. (1980). Social class and the hidden curriculum of work. Journal of Education, 162(1), 67-92. Cloud, H., Townsend, J. Keeping God in the American Culture as Depicted in the Audio Adrenaline
Keeping God in the American Culture as Depicted in the Audio Adrenaline Song, Can't Take God Away Music has always been a big part of our culture. People sing and listen to songs for entertainment and for encouragement. Explore folk songs or Negro spirituals for instance. Many slaves sang spirituals for encouragement and hope to carry them through the rough times they experienced. Even today, most people enjoy listening to music because they can relate to the things about which the artists sing. Often artists sing about things that either upset or please them. These days, much of American music exposes problems in our society. In a song entitled, Canââ¬â¢t Take God Away, the Christian rock group Audio Adrenaline sings about how God is being taken out of various aspects of the American culture more and more, but nothing can take Him out of the singerââ¬â¢s life. This song is an accurate assessment of the nation today. The song deals first with education when it explains, "You can take God out of my school/You can make me listen to you/You can take God out of the pledge" in lines 1-3. It used to be that there was daily prayer in our nationââ¬â¢s schools. At one time, students learned about God there. In recent years, though, God has been taken out of school as much as possible. Some people have even gone as far as taking the "under God" clause out of the Pledge of Allegiance. I agree with this portion of the song. Every day, I attend a school where Iââ¬â¢m taught that my beliefs are just as good as yours - if you think somethingââ¬â¢s right, you are justified in doing it, even if I believe itââ¬â¢s wrong. I am forced to listen to the concepts of evolution that say we came from essentially nothing. Rather than learning about God, we learn about how... ...o tell you something you need to understand CHORUS You can't take God away from me You can take my life, my land, my liberty Lock me up, I'll still be free 'Cause you can't take God from me You can take God out of the law You can make me listen to ya'll You can take God out of the start But you can't take God out of my heart Listen to me closely, lend me your ear The substance of my statement lets you know I'm sincere Government officials, shapers of the land I've got to tell you something you need to understand REPEAT CHORUS BRIDGE You can't take God, you can't take God away You can't take God, you can't take God away You can't take God, you can't take God away You can't take God, you can't take God away REPEAT CHORUS Copyright à © 1993 Gotee Music/BMI/Up In The Mix Music (A Division of The ForeFront Communications Group, Inc.)/BMI

Othelloââ¬â¢s Shakespeare Literature Essay
Stereotype in laymanââ¬â¢s term is often defined as predictable characters and situations or something that is not authentic, or something that is already experienced. In Shakespeare literature, stereotyping is sometimes inevitable. Some of his works, its themes and characters embody the social predicaments and situations during the time he created the masterpiece. In Othelloââ¬â¢s case, the issue of race and religion and the revelation of the dark side of human nature is revealed and discussed through the characters. Themes and conflicts like jealousy, race, power, religious tensions, obsession and marriage illustrated in Othello are still important and experienced today. The characters in love, the characters in extreme emotions like obsession and jealousy and the characters who lose and win portray same emotions in reality and some other literature. The common human experience experienced by the characters of Othello, Desdemona and Iago makes this literature stereotype. However what makes stereotyping in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s literature unique and sophisticated is the creative structure of his stories and plays. The play reflects that race and culture divides the world and the people which, in effect, influence human responses to love and emotions. Othello, who is the main character in the story, is a black man who fell in love with a white woman, Desdemona. When Iago gave false accusations against Desdemona, Othello responded with rage, revealing his awareness that his newfound love with Desdemona was all but an illusion. Othello is obviously insecure about his identity as a black man which motivated his hatred and eventually his actions. Othelloââ¬â¢s general conclusion that a white woman and a black man are unfit to become lovers motivated his demonic tendencies. This reflects that the controversial issues about racism manipulate our perspective towards love and relationship, which is often destructive. Like any other human beings when faced with inequality, Othello approached his emotions unwisely. Othelloââ¬â¢s reaction to his feelings contaminated his sense of morality and spirituality just like how other people is being contaminated by their extreme emotions. Jealousy and envy motivate evilness and passion that in the long run will create human suffering and tragedy. People often hear that human beings are naturally selfish. In love, this selfishness is often revealed. However, those people who are victims of jealousy, especially the ones who are loved, will always experience passive suffering. Love affects in this case, the way a lover responds to love will greatly affect the beloved. Love is a shared communion. The loverââ¬â¢s choices will affect the belovedââ¬â¢s fate. Othelloââ¬â¢s choices resulted to Desdemonaââ¬â¢s death. Here Shakespeare demonstrates the defensive nature and stereotypical image of black people If Othello denied inferiority and race, Iago gave importance to power and race and status. This selfish need and motivation of Iago resulted to jealousy and which eventually led to destruction. Just like any other negative emotions, Shakespeare gave a predictable outcome: selfishness and jealousy leads to destruction. Stereotyping in character is probably used by Shakespeare to demonstrate the realities of human life and the realities of human nature. However the sophistication and language of his literature revealed his Shakespeareââ¬â¢s innate talent, artistry and creativity.

Family Delphinidae
Family Delphinidae Delphinidae is the family of animals commonly known as the dolphins. This is the largest family of cetaceans.Members of this family are commonly called dolphins or delphinids. The Family Delphinidae includes such recognizable species as the bottlenose dolphin, the killer whale (orca), theà Atlantic white-sided dolphin,à Pacific white-sided dolphin, spinner dolphin,à common dolphin, and pilot whales. Dolphins are vertebrates and marine mammals. Origin of the Word Delphinidae The word Delphinidae comes from the Latin word delphinus, meaning dolphin. Delphinidae Species Cetaceans in the Family Delphinidae areà Odontocetes orà toothed whales. There areà 38 speciesà in this family.à Characteristics of Delphinidae The Delphinidae are generally fast, streamlined animals with a pronounced beak, or rostrum.à Dolphins have cone-shaped teeth, an important characteristic that distinguishes them from porpoises. They have one blowhole, which distinguishes them from baleen whales, which have a pair of blowholes.à Dolphins also use echolocation to find their prey. They have an organ in their head called a melon which they use to focus clicking sounds which they produce. The sounds bounce off objects around them, including prey. In addition to its use in finding prey, delphinids also use echolocation to communicate with other dolphins and to navigate. How Big Are Dolphins? According to the Encyclopedia of Marine Mammals, the Delphinidae can range in size from about 4 or 5 feet (e.g., Hectors dolphin and the spinner dolphin) to about 30 feet in length (the killer whale, or orca). Where Do Dolphins Live? Delphinids live in a wide range of habitats, from coastal to pelagic areas.à Dolphins in Captivity Dolphins, especially bottlenose dolphins, are kept in captivity in aquaria and marine parks. They are also kept in some facilities for research. Some of these animals are once-wild animals that came into a rehabilitation center and were unable to be released. The first marine park in the U.S. wasà Marine Studios, now known as Marineland. This park began exhibiting bottlenose dolphins in the 1930s. Since dolphins were first displayed in aquaria, the practice has become more controversial, with activists and animal welfare advocates especially concerned about the stress levels and health of captive cetaceans, especially orcas. Dolphin Conservation Dolphins are also sometimes the victims of drive hunts, which have grown more widely known and controversial. In these hunts, dolphins are killed for their meat and to be sent to aquariums and marine parks. Even before that, people advocated for the protection of dolphins, who were dying by the thousands in nets used to catch tuna. This led to the development and marketing of dolphin-safe tuna. In the U.S., all dolphins are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act.à References and Further Information Committee on Taxonomy. 2014. List of marine mammal species and subspecies. Current real estate market Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Current real estate market - Essay Example at are easy to distinguish from regular paragraph content, but the online format has been cleverly designed to be more practical and versatile for the everyday user, especially if that user happens to be a buyer, seller, or real estate professional. The purpose of this essay is to describe the content found in the real estate section of a newspaper of this typeââ¬âincluding updates on interest rates, surveys of construction costs and sales prices, and articles referencing legislation or other issues that have an effect on the real estate marketââ¬âas well as to respond to the located material, pointing out how such content could be helpful to a real estate appraiser. Located in the center of the real estate section of the newspaperââ¬â¢s website was an absolutely indispensable tool to a real estate appraiser. It provided links to articles and information on some incredibly specific areas related to real estate, including general real estate news; homes; condos; second homes; money issues; trends; and neighborhood information. Clearly, such a vast wealth of information can be utilized using this tool that it has been categorized to make it easier for those with a vested interest in real estate to locate what they are searching for. Interest rate information was available through two major sources in the newspaper: articles discussing interest rate trends and tools and calculators that would allow one to calculate such a rate using information such as the purpose of their desired loan, the type of loan, the discount point range, and the estimated loan amount. Obviously, tools of this type can only provide rough estimates as financial figures such as interest rates are based on a variety of factors outside of the toolââ¬â¢s capabilities, such as creditworthiness. There were literally tons of articles in the newspaper that pointed to a vast increase in the number of foreclosures over the course of the past year, provided information detailing the differences between
