Mushrooms appear overnight , growing and expanding quickly. Women did not appear all of a sudden overnight but they had been ignored for so long that when they began to entreat for their rights there curtly appeared to be numerous of them. Mushrooms are also seemingly harmless, vertical bid women were thought to be, but many of them can be poisonous, sometimes even deadly and are underestimated the same way women were before.
Sylvia Plath also explores the thought that women were treated like furniture. This idea is repeated on several occasion throughout the poem. The first arouse of this idea is the line Earless and eyeless. They are senseless, a piece of furniture. The li! ne which follows also reflects this idea of them being furniture.
